Sunflower Wrestling Sponsors Kids Folkstyle Events

The Iowa/USA Wrestling Kids Folkstyle Tournament Schedule has been set.  There are a few changes to the format this year along with the announcement of Sunflower Wrestling assuming the role of title sponsor.

We are pleased to and excited to unveil the Tour of Iowa series.  The series consists of five tournaments held at various locations in the state.  The Tour is centered around an unique award concept that consists of five separate jigsaw puzzle piece shaped medals unique to each tournament.  If a participant goes to all five tournaments he would have collected each puzzle shaped medal and when the medals are fitted together they will make up the state of Iowa.  For a picture of what the medal will look like follow the link.

One thing we changed this year was the qualification procedure for the Super State Championships.  This year there will be four separate Super Regional Tournaments held on the same day, Sunday, January 15th, 2012.  Participation is required for all Bantam, Intermediate, Novice and Middle School division wrestlers wishing to compete at the Super State Championships.  This year's hosts include OA-BCIG High School in Ida Grove, Johnston High School, Cedar Falls High School and Iowa City West High School.  Depending on what county you live in your are required to attend your assigned Super Regional.  To view the flyer for the Super Regional Championships, which includes county assignments click on the link below.

One major change for this year is the date for the Iowa Youth Wrestling Super State Championships.  Super State will take place on January 28th-29th, 2012 at the UNI Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.  All weigh ins will take place on the 28th with all wreslting taking place on the 29th.  This year we are adding a PeeWee division for wrestlers born during the years of 2006 and 2007. PeeWee division wrestlers do not have to qualify, but they must preregister.  We also ditched the traditional Schoolboy/girl division in favor of the Middle School division. Middle School division wrestlers must be born in the years of 1997, 1998, 1999 and enrolled in grades 6th, 7th or 8th, you must meet both age and grade requirements. The reason for the change to the Middle School division was due to the fact for the first time ever Iowa will be able to send a team to compete at the premier Kids Folkstyle dual competition in the nation, the USA Middle School National Duals in Danville, IL.  It is a grade based dual tournament for wrestlers in grades 6th-8th, so we will use the results from Super States to determine who gets the privledge to represent Iowa in Illinois come March.  You can click the link below to view the Super State flyer.

One other addition this year is the Iowa Youth Wrestling State Dual Championships. Dual State will be held in Marshalltown at the High School Roundhouse on Saturday, March 3rd, 2012.  Please check back for futher details.

Even with all the changes our main goal is to provide the best wrestling experience possible.  We appreciate all of our past and current members support and hope that with the addition of the newly created membership tiers more and more Iowans will take the plunge and give USA Wrestling a try.  Good luck to all coaches, parents and wrestlers and we certainly look forward to seeing you on the mat this year.
