Announcements Inside

The fastest growing youth Iowa state wrestling tournament is quickly approaching with the Iowa Youth Super State Championships taking place on January 26th-27th, 2013 at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, IA.  To qualify for this event all Bantam, Intermediate, Novice and Middle School division wrestlers must participate in their respective Super Regional tournament on January 13th, 2013.  This year's Super Regional events will take place in Ida Grove, Grinnell, Cedar Falls and Washington.  Each wrestler must attend the Super Regional that is assigned to the county that they live in, please refer to the Super Regional flyer for county assignments. http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0033/2409/2013_Super_Regionals.pdf

Changes for this year's Super State Championships include the coaching card requirement, criteria for the Team trophy, the addition of the 55 lb. weight class to the Novice division and the requirement that all Iowa/USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Dual team members must compete at Super State.  This year coaches will not be required to have an USAW Coaches Card to coach in the corner, however you will be required to purchase a coaching band.  All coaches that have a current USAW Coaches Card will be admitted to the tournament and receive the coaches band for free.  The State Team trophy will be awarded to the top 6 teams that accumulated the most points from the Tour Of Iowa, Super Regionals and Super State tournaments.  We were also able to add a 55 lb. weight class to the Novice division due to the high number of like weigh ins at the Tour Of Iowa events, this is something that we will evaluate on a year to year basis.  Any wrestler wishing to participate on any Iowa/USA Wrestling Folkstyle Dual team must participate at the Super State Championships, this includes, but not limited to the Heartland Elementary Duals and the USAW National Middle School Duals.  The Super State flyer can viewed by clicking on the following link, http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0033/3311/2013_Super_State.pdf

Like last year we will again have a PeeWee division with all wrestlers born in 2007 & 2008 being eligible.  PeeWee divsion wrestlers do not have to qualify to wrestle at the Super State Championships, but you are required to preregister.  Like last year we will be sending a team to the USAW Middle School National Duals in Danville, IL.  All Middle School division Super State champions will have the opportunity to represent Iowa at the toughest Middle School dual event in the country.  Those same wrestlers will also have the opportunity to wreslte in Carver Hawkeye Arena on February 10th, 2013 as the Iowa Middle School State Champs will take on the Nebraska Middle School State Champs just prior the Iowa Hawkeye / Nebraksa Cornhusker Big Ten dual meet.

A couple of other items to note are that wrestlers are allowed to cvhange weight classes at Super Regionals if they do not make weight, but must wrestle the same weight at Super State that they qualified for at Super Regionals.  All PeeWee division wrestlers may change weights at Super State if they do not make weight.  Participation at Super Regionals requires the wrestler to report to each match he/she is scheduled to particpate in.  Weighing in and leaving is not considered participation and if you do this you will not be eligible to compete at Super State.

We look forward to seeing each and every one of you at the UNI Dome in January for what is going to be the biggest and best Iowa/USA Wrestling event of the year!  Good luck to all wrestlers this season and the quest to be crowned as the 2013 Super State Champion begins now!
